Before You Order And Use

Before You Order And Use

Before ordering or using SDT103, confirm the external air source requirement, DC12V power supply, testing oil rule, airflow regulator, operating time limit, and hot-surface warning.

External Air Source Required

SDT103 does not have a built-in air pump. It must be connected to an external air source or shop air compressor before smoke testing.

DC12V Battery Required

Connect the SDT103 automotive smoke tester to a DC12V vehicle battery. Do not use it without the proper 12V power supply.

Open The Airflow Regulator

Before use, gently turn the airflow regulator valve to open airflow. The flow meter helps observe the current airflow volume during testing.

Testing Oil Not Included

Testing liquid is not included due to logistics restrictions. Buy liquid paraffin or baby oil locally for use as testing oil.

Fill 10-15ml Only

For first use, fill 10-15ml testing oil. Do not exceed this range, and do not add more than 15ml each time.

Refill Only When Smoke Gets Thin

Add fresh oil only when smoke becomes thin. Before adding fresh oil, pour out the remaining oil and replace detector oil regularly.

8-Minute Continuous Use Limit

Do not run the detector continuously for more than 8 minutes. Allow interval rest between tests to protect the unit.

75°C Protection

If the device exceeds the working limit, such as over 75°C, the intelligent protection system turns off the power. Operate it again after it cools down.

Hot Surface Warning

The round metal section of the detector can become hot during operation. Avoid direct contact to prevent burns.

Safety Reminder

  • Keep the smoke tester away from smoke-sensitive parts during leak detection.
  • Do not refill oil while the smoke tester is running.
  • If too much oil is added accidentally, drain excess oil before operation.
  • Use SDT103 for low-pressure smoke leak detection. Do not treat it as a high-pressure A/C pressure test machine.
Key Features

Key Features

SDT103 combines EVAP-focused low-pressure smoke output, visual airflow observation, adjustable smoke flow, compact portability, temperature protection, and long-term support for automotive leak diagnosis.

EVAP-Focused Low Pressure

SDT103 is designed for EVAP system testing with output pressure around 3.2kPa / 0.46psi, helping reduce the risk of damaging EVAP pipes with excessive pressure.

Quick Smoke Generation

The tester generates smoke quickly to improve leak-check efficiency. Actual pipe filling time depends on pipe volume, adapter setup, airflow, and test conditions.

Visual Airflow Meter

The external flow meter lets users observe current airflow volume, making it easier to control smoke output and protect the tested system.

Adjustable Smoke Flow

The airflow regulator helps adjust smoke flow for different pipe conditions. Avoid excessive pressure and use the minimum practical airflow for the test.

Compact And Portable

The compact body is easier to carry, store, and position around the engine bay compared with larger workshop smoke machines.

Overheat And Anti-Frost Protection

The protection system shuts down power above 75°C, and the device can work normally at low temperatures down to about -20°C.

External Air Source Setup

Connect shop air and DC12V power, turn the flow dial counterclockwise to open airflow, then switch on the unit to start generating smoke.

3-Year Warranty Support

For eligible damage caused by non-human factors, AUTOOL provides 3-year support and replacement part assistance.

How It Works

How It Works

SDT103 uses external air input, DC12V power, low-oxygen smoke generation, and built-in pressure control to support safer EVAP low-pressure leak checks.

External Air Input

Connect an external air source and the DC12V battery before starting the smoke test.

Controlled EVAP Pressure

The built-in pressure controller fixes output pressure around 3.2kPa / 0.46psi for EVAP system testing.

Low-Oxygen Smoke Generation

The tester generates visible smoke so leaks can be located by observing where smoke escapes.

Visual Leak Location

Smoke escaping from pipe joints, fittings, seals, or system openings indicates possible leak points for further inspection.

Applications

Applications

Use SDT103 for low-pressure smoke leak checks on suitable 12V vehicle pipe systems, EVAP systems, intake and exhaust areas, seals, fittings, fuel tank systems, and other supported low-pressure test areas.

EVAP System Testing

Designed for low-pressure EVAP smoke testing at around 3.2kPa / 0.46psi.

Engine And Pipe Leaks

Supports intake system, exhaust system, throttle, intercooler, crankcase, oil seal, and various pipe fitting leak checks.

Vehicle Sealing And Fuel Tank

Can help inspect car sealing, fuel tank system leakage, poorly closed valves, and air or water leakage areas under proper low-pressure conditions.

Supported Vehicles

Suitable for many 12V cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, off-road vehicles, ATVs, light trucks, and speedboats.

Service Technician Use

The visual flow meter and airbag adapter help service technicians complete leak checks faster and reduce unnecessary repair time.

Low-Pressure Systems Only

Use the tester only on systems suitable for smoke leak detection and low-pressure diagnosis. Avoid high-pressure systems and smoke-sensitive parts.

How To Use

How To Use

Use SDT103 with 10-15ml liquid paraffin or baby oil, a DC12V battery, and an external air source. Open the airflow regulator before smoke testing and check leak points visually.

Add Test Oil

Fill 10-15ml baby oil or liquid paraffin into the detector before first use. Do not overfill.

Connect The Test Pipe

Open the engine cover, hang the detector if needed, disconnect the pipe that needs testing, and connect it to the smoke output hose or proper adapter.

Connect External Air Source

Connect shop air or an air compressor to the air source interface. SDT103 does not have a built-in air pump.

Connect DC12V Power

Connect the detector to a DC12V vehicle battery, then turn on the power switch so the detector starts working.

Open Airflow And Start Smoke

Gently turn the airflow regulator valve to open airflow, then switch on smoke generation. Observe the flow meter while testing.

Locate Leaks

The tested pipe can fill with smoke in about 30 seconds depending on system volume and setup. Check leak points visually and use a headlamp if necessary.
