Do unit seems to work really well the directions seem to be printed well. I have used it and it does take a minute for it to warm up on the smoke to reach the farthest parts of the evap System.only problem I found is one of the hoses is a little too thin and will pinch keep the smoke from flowing. Make sure none of them are kinked or folded.

Pretty good little smoke machine. Takes a minute or two to warm up and the produces a decent amount of smoke. The only issue I have had is that the cans lid will pop open a little once the machine is hot if the lid is not put on tight. Not a big issue, just need to make sure it¡¯s on tight.

For the “cheap” version of the smoke machine, this is very complete. The key component of course is the air regulator set to 0.5 lbs. Any more pressure than that will cause problems.

This is good enough for a DIYer or the occasional home mechanic in my opinion. It was a worthwhile investment as I was able to locate a vacuum leak under the intake manifold of a BMW M54 engine. Impossible to do without smoke. Although the manual mentions condensation in the smoke line could occur, this is pretty much guaranteed and is a pain in my opinion. I ended up with light brown colored condensation in the MAF and intake tube that I had to clean out after using this tool.

I bought this smoke machine looking for a way to diagnose all of my cars but at the same time I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I was very pleased when i got the smoke machine..it was basically ready to use. I just had to get the mineral oil to help create the smoke. It came with quick instructions step by step on how to use it and a perfect adapter for connecting to a vacuum line..made my diagnosis quick. Great device would highly recommend it to anyone. Works great at the shop. I¡¯m glad I took the time to decide on this one. My buddy has a different one purchased from another seller that uses a large ugly can with an air regulator sticking out making it harder to store (makes the shop look unprofessional).This compact smoke tester is less than 1/3 of the size and outputs about the same/if not even better amount of smoke which is real sweet. Simple tool, easy to use.. If you own an old car or Jeep TJ like me and have been having climate control issues. I couldn’t figure out my system for literally years. Looked everywhere for what was causing vacuum issues making my controls not work. Spent hundred on vacuum hoses, climate control switches, breakers, fuses, yada yada yada. Finally learned if this hooked it up to my vacuum lines and blamo! Small amount of smoke coming directly from NEW SWITCH that’s was assembled wrong from factory. I would have never known cause I just bought the switches new and very costly upward 400$. Who would’ve guessed a switch brand new from factory was assembled wrong. Get it. Best money you will spend

Perfect tool to verify integrity of vacuum lines in my ‘collector car’ (and daily-driver too!)..Includes very useful instruction pamphlet in everyday English. A near-beginner could use the device.Integrated low pressure regulator (reducer) facilitated easy use of my pancake air compressor.Quick generation of (grey) smoke using 12 volt heater. I used an old ‘battery charger’ as 12V source.Th[e only improvement I could imagine is a swivel in the smoke supply-hose to overcome ‘hose-curl’.Pleased buyer/user.

Originally, I purchased this thinking it was the 1 gallon paint can but I did not realize that it was the smaller one pint can. However after using it, it was much better to store as I don’t foresee myself using it everyday or even year.I purchased this because it uses higher quality parts, specifically the hose and alligator clips. Other competitors use the clear vinyl ones that you can purchase from the home depot and smaller alligator clips..
Overall, it worked and I was able to confirm that I did not have a leak.

Really nice quality on this smoke test tool. It just has one button to turn it on and uses normal baby oil (not included) to operate. The power cable attaches to your battery and it comes with a hook to hang it on your hood latch. It also includes a conical adapter that will fit most intakes, but an inflatable bladder may be required for larger intake systems (not included in this kit).This machine is a great price compared to other models and if you just need it to test your intake for small leaks, it’s perfect. Just connect the hose to the intake adapter, fill with mineral oil, and turn it on. it takes a few minutes before the smoke really starts flowing but it works well and I was able to detect a small leak quickly. I had tried other methods like soap and they didn’t work well enough because the leak was so small and in a location that was hard to see. So just for that, it was worth having before I started changing expensive sensors on my car.In addition to intake system testing, this unit can also be used to check for exhaust system leaks by putting the smoke into the tailpipe and seeing if smoke comes out anywhere in the exhaust system. You can also test for engine leaks by putting the smoke where your oil goes in, or the dipstick hole and you can see if smoke comes out of your engine at all. The machine can also test EVAP systems. I didn’t try that but I did try the exhaust test and I had no leaks which is a good thing.Overall, this little smoke machine is basic but works great for finding small but extremely frustrating intake system leaks. I haven’t had any issues and it’s a great tool to have when diagnosing vehicles for small leaks, which can be common old older vehicles. I can’t say how reliable it will be over the years but so far it seems like a solid little device that should work well in my home shop when I need it.

The unit is in a metal case, outputs, indicator lights and gauges are marked for identification. The unit is supplied in cardboard product box. Inside is a custom fitted foam cover that envelopes most of the unit. This mates to another foam rubber custom holder in the base. In my opinion this is a good storage and travel case that is convenient. The outer cardboard box also has a carry handle. The accessory items are contained is separate box that fits inside the larger box.

The main surprise here is that the documentation is thorough enough to be useful. I wasn’t expecting “MR CARTOOL” to include a manual that has enough information for someone unfamiliar with the tool to use it without turning to Google, but this unit does. It has complete instructions for filling with the oil to produce smoke, how long it can run at a time (apparently only 5 minutes, which was a disappointment), and how to turn it on and get it running. The packaging is also surprisingly nice, with fitted foam top and bottom inserts to keep it in place and protected in the box. I use a smoke machine infrequently enough that keeping it in the original box is convenient, and this unit stores neatly and securely in the box. The accessories are well-designed and nicely finished, which makes for a less frustrating experience during use than many other “no-name, all-caps” tools found all over Wal-Mart,Overall, this unit is a solid value, and surprisingly high-quality.

Car was smelling like blow-by gasses we¡¯re escaping somewhere. A toxic mix of oil, gas, and exhaust. Probably decent amount of carbon monoxide in there as well as it was making me dizzy. This tool quickly showed that the leak came from a bad oil filler cap, explaining where the smell comes from. On top of that, I found that the intake pipe behind the MAF sensor is leaky as well. Great tool, and I¡¯m super happy I didn¡¯t give the car to the shop because both problems are extremely easy fixes! Saved a lot of time and money

Works amazing! No additional parts are required besides your liquid smoke, but other than that, it¡¯s very simple to use and easy to set up. It works with in a min of being on. I was able to trace and find my boost leaks with in 2 min. Works way better than the old soapy water trick because water evaporates in a hot engine.

Good “tool” to invest in for finding leaks in EVAP line. Assuming you find a leak, it’ll cost you about half of what it would cost to have dealership find/fix the leak.Everything worked fine upon receiving the item. I have only used it once. Instructions are clear for setting up the machine and connecting the hoses.A continuous air supply is required for steady vapor flow. A large leak will be fairly easy to find because of continuous volume of smoke/vapor generated. A small leak will take extra time and effort before you are able to pinpoint it. The mineral oil lasted me the entire long troubleshooting cycle and have some left over.My vehicle does not have EVAP access port so I disconnected inlet/outlet tubing at the purge solenoid to send the smoke through – both towards the gas tank/gas cap side and towards the air intake manifold side. The connection fitting did not seal completely inside the tubing so I had a friend hold it tight in place.As it turned out for me, I did not find a leak. After clearing the codes (large and small leak), neither the engine check sign nor the gap cap sign came up. My guess is one of the two connection was loose at the purge solenoid.

I love the smoke machine it’s great I’d like to see it with some type of hanger or base plate seeing as it so lightweight just a thought I had…and maybe include auto specs..for individual cars so we know what psi is normal as to not exceed that and potentially do damage to auto but as for the unit I’m in awe…I love it

I have been wanting one of these for a while . I usually build my own specialty tools and was going to build my own smoke machine due to not wanting one in a 1 gallon can. Then I saw this one built in a 1 qt can so decide to buy it. No regrets, it works great. Produces a lot of smoke and is the only one at this price point that perfect. I had a 2004 BMW 330ci that had a vacuum leak and I could not figure out from where was leaking from, I connected the same to the intake port and boommmmm leak was found, not happy with that, tested a 2008 Mitsubishi with same issue and boommmm worked again… so quick!!! This product would definitely help my mechanic business!!!

My 2006 Cobalt 2.2 had a p0171 code, was able to find the problem with the smoke pump .Smoke came out from the injectors seats .The O-Rings in the injector seats were shut, replaced the 4 O-Rings and problem solved.

Used it to find small evap leak throwing code on 02 Dodge Grand Caravan that was underneath van. Follow clear instructions carefully – worked perfectly. Watch you tube video on where to put smoke in. Really helped to put weight on top of can as recommended so it doesn’t shift around. Turned air pressure from compressor down to 20 psi to take load off of included regulator – didn’t have to but why not – amount of air seemed just right. Ran first smoke test, nothing up top but signs of smoke from under, so put van on ramps so it was EASY to move around underneath – important. Had good flashlight to move around at different angles – so was pretty easy to pinpoint where smoke was coming from. Couldn’t see crack in hose where is stretched over barb (up against body) till I got it off and pinched it – there it was. I had actually pulled that end of the hose off before, but without smoke test hadn’t really really looked hard at it and van wasn’t up high enough to work easy underneath. Replaced hose, ran smoke test again, no smoke anywhere. Couple of years ago had replaced common leaky hose connectors in front by passenger side to solve that code, but this leak / engine check light code was about to drive me to random parts replacing which is always expensive and not always successful.

Good quality product and build really satisfied… Just make sure to use ALL OF THE FLUID WHEN OPERATING THE DEVICE because the fluid would dry out quickly and start burning if it dries out… but other than that works perfect.

Smoke machine really works as described.I used it for first time on a ford expedition with codes p0171 and p0172, and to be honest machine confirmed that it did not have large vacuum leaks on PCV system or intake manifold gaskets. However a hissing sound was present with engine running on right hand side of engine bay and the vacuum hose that goes to vacuum tank was torn and leaking. I did not look close enough for smoke coming out of such hose, but that was the source of problem. Fixed hose reset memory and drove vehicle to confirm repair. Good machine lots of smoke but be careful it gets very hot. I recommend using thick gloves to handle machine after use.

The unit is awesome. The attachments are all perfect for my 2002 BMW 325ci . I will say the directions were off a little it said fill the oil reservoir , do not fill it just add a quick squirt , when you start it up let it run for a few minutes then pinch the hose for like 10-20 seconds that builds up the heat and smoke do it a few times to get some nice thick smoke. Attach and go this will run a whole car system full of smoke on that one little squirt. I would buy it again the price is right and no extra machine compressor needed. I think this was the only unit in this price range that had all the attachments also so a great deal.

Worked like a dream..took about 60 seconds to find the emissions leak. Produces smoke like crazy. I used baby oil..initially took about 3-4 minutes to start pumping smoke and stuck it in hose and no sooner hooked it up it smoked like a bomb under vehicle. Great machine and so affordable.

Has lots of adapters for different parts of the vehicle. I ran mine through a hose into my intake manifold. A couple of my fuel injector seals were leaking. Only had to run the machine a couple minutes to find the leak. If I ever have to do the exhaust I’ll have to buy a long section of tubing to reach that far back other than that I think it has everything you could need.

In the past I have used far more expensive machines with far better smoke production, however this gets five stars because it works nearly as well but for a fraction of the price.Sometimes gets liquid into the smoke line, so be careful when testing anything with rubber seals.It produces a large amount of smoke which is nice but make sure to run the ¡®air only¡¯ function for a while after turning off the smoke to cool down the burner and help reduce liquid in the smoke line.I have noticed the oil left in the reservoir is slightly burnt looking after a few uses but doesn¡¯t appear to have any negative effect.It comes with an excellent variety of adapters.

This compact smoke machine was a great value for the price. After 2 weeks of trying to find the cause for a P0442 code and getting more perplexed every day we decided a smoke test was needed. The garage wanted ninety five plus dollars just to test. After reading all the reviews we decided to take a chance and I’m so glad we did. It took about 20 minutes to find smoke rolling from the top of the gas tank. We did the test after dark with an LED light. After removing the gas tank we found the sending unit was bad and the seal between the tank and fuel pump was partially disintegrated. Not only was smoke coming out but there were signs of gasoline having splashed out too.We were also able to find a very small elbow in one of the vacuum lines that had cracked. This machine produced enough smoke to make it easy to find.We were about to give up when this smoke machine gave us the answers at a much cheaper option than a mechanic and we can use it again on our two other older vehicles.

One of the axioms in the automotive trades is that it is often a snap to repair a vacuum leak; but frequently a nightmare to locate one.I tried everything: Gumout, soap & water, and propane. Nothing worked. I then decided to give Mrcartool’s smoke machine a go. It worked flawlessly, and found several leaks in a few minutes. I recommend this product without hesitation. And it’s USA made, another plus.

Works exactly like advertised. You get smoke fast and there is really no way to screw it up. Cars now have a lot of vacuum hoses, and they do develop leaks. After spending hundreds for someone else to hunt down a cracked hose I can hunt them down my self.

I had been looking for a really good smoker to help diagnose vacuum issues on cars because the carb spray and water spray method really weren’t too reliable for me nor were they particularly safe. This smoke machine is incredible. I’ve used maybe two others before settling on this one as my go to.All the others that I’ve used required the use of shop air, but this one has it’s own built in compressor. It’s awesome because it definitely makes this smoke machine portable. All you have to do is connect it to the battery of the car and regulate the pressure that you want to inject into what ever system you’re trying to diagnose. Whether it be vacuums or the EVAP, I love this machine. Especially since it comes with all the adapters and plugs you might need.

Outstanding little unit. Puts out under half a psi so it won’t rupture the fuel tank. This was my first experience with a smoke machine. Used to cure small evap leak code on Mercedes ML350. It had a little crack on the seam of the gas neck. In a month, I’d not have found it without smoke. Thanks so much, guys. Great job. It even shut itself off once (overheat protection) and reset after a little while.

A nice low cost smoke machine. Surprisingly small and lightweight, comes with rubber hose and adapters, and even a squeeze bulb type smoke ejector. Includes a 12-volt battery clamp cable that attaches to a car battery so the unit doesn’t stray too far from the engine compartment. The unit heats up quickly to produce smoke, and the output of smoke can be adjusted on the unit. Smoke oil is not included, but a refillable bottle with graduated markings is provided. I’m very happy with it.

Works great, lots of smoke. Beware the heated mineral/baby oil will stink up your garage for a long time. So bad I am unable to use this inside my garage. In storage the smell is still so bad, I have to store this outside.
For the money I am satisfied. Still could not find the Evap leak on my 2005 Suburban, but not the fault of the machine. Think the leak may be on the top of the gas tank where I cannot see the evap lines.
The pressure gage is a must. It is missing on other similar priced smoke machines. Tells you there is a leak if the ball does not fall to the bottom. To test, close off the smoke tube and it will go to the bottom.
