Core leak-detection capabilities
Key Features
SDT103 combines a fixed 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi EVAP-focused output with visible airflow monitoring and adjustable smoke flow. The main unit includes 3-year warranty support.
EVAP-Focused 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi Testing
SDT103 is designed for EVAP system testing with an output pressure of 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi, helping reduce the risk of damage from excessive pressure. Designed for low-pressure EVAP smoke testing at 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi.
Visual Airflow Meter
The external flow meter shows the current airflow, making it easier to adjust smoke output and protect the system under test.
Adjustable Smoke Flow
The airflow regulator helps adjust smoke flow for different test lines. Avoid excessive pressure and use the minimum practical airflow for the test.
Quick Smoke Generation
The unit generates smoke quickly to improve leak-check efficiency. Actual line filling time depends on line volume, adapter setup, airflow, and test conditions.
External-Air Setup
SDT103 accepts shop air or an external compressor through its air-source interface, then lets you monitor and adjust airflow at the unit.
Airbag Adapter Sealing Support
The airbag adapter supports test-port sealing during leak checks.
Engine, Lines, Vehicle Sealing and Fuel-Tank Checks
Supports intake system, exhaust system, throttle, intercooler, crankcase, oil seal, and line-fitting leak checks. Can help inspect vehicle sealing areas, fuel-tank leaks, valves that do not close fully, and air or water leak paths for low-pressure smoke checks.
Low-Pressure Systems Only
Use SDT103 only for low-pressure systems that the applicable vehicle or component service procedure permits for smoke testing. Do not use it on high-pressure systems or excluded components.
Compact Portable Design
The compact body is designed for carrying, storage, and positioning around the engine bay.
Grouped Controls and Connections
The handle, flow meter, smoke switch, power socket, air source interface, and smoke output are grouped together for quick component identification during setup.

Step-by-step smoke leak testing
Step-by-Step Instructions
SDT103 separates supplied airflow, pressure control, smoke generation, and visual leak location into a low-pressure EVAP test process.
Step 01
Add Testing Oil
Fill 10–15 mL baby oil or liquid paraffin into the detector before first use. Do not overfill.
Step 02
Connect the Test Line
Access the system to be tested and position the detector as needed. Disconnect the line you want to test, then connect it to the smoke output hose or the adapter that matches the selected test port.
Step 03
Connect External Air Source
Connect shop air or an air compressor to the air source interface. SDT103 does not have a built-in air pump.
Step 04
Connect 12V DC Power
Connect the detector to a 12V DC vehicle battery, then turn on the power switch to start the detector.
Step 05
Open Airflow and Start Smoke
Gently turn the airflow regulator valve to open airflow, then switch on smoke generation. Observe the flow meter while testing.
Step 06
Locate Leaks
The line under test can fill with smoke in about 30 seconds, depending on system volume and setup. Inspect for escaping smoke to locate leaks and use a headlamp if necessary.
External air, fixed EVAP pressure, airflow adjustment, testing oil, and low-pressure limits
Safety & Compatibility
SDT103 uses an external air source, keeps the EVAP test output fixed at 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi, and lets you monitor and adjust airflow. Adjust airflow gradually, but do not treat airflow control as a way to raise test pressure.
External Air and 12V Power Are Required
SDT103 has no built-in air pump. Connect a shop air supply or external compressor to the air inlet, then connect the unit to a 12V DC vehicle battery before smoke testing.
Test Output Is Fixed at 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi
SDT103 regulates the incoming air to a fixed 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi EVAP test output. The compressor supplies air to the unit; its supply pressure is not the pressure applied directly to the test line.
Adjust Airflow Gradually
Start with the airflow regulator near minimum, then increase flow only as needed. Use the flow meter to watch airflow through the connected test line; changing airflow does not increase the unit’s fixed test pressure.
Testing Oil Is Not Included
Testing oil is not included. Use liquid paraffin or baby oil and add 10–15 mL before first use.
Refill Only When Smoke Becomes Thin
Add fresh oil only when the smoke output becomes thin. Drain the remaining oil first, then add fresh oil without exceeding 15 mL at one time.
Limit Continuous Use to 8 Minutes
Do not run SDT103 continuously for more than 8 minutes. Automatic overheat protection shuts off power above 75°C. Let the unit cool before restarting.
Operating Temperature and Hot Surfaces
SDT103 supports operation down to -20°C. The round metal housing can become hot during use, so avoid touching hot surfaces directly.
Use Only for Permitted Low-Pressure Systems
Use SDT103 only where low-pressure smoke testing is permitted. Do not use it for direct high-pressure automotive A/C pressure testing or on systems excluded by the vehicle or component service procedure.
