Core leak-detection capabilities
Key Features
SDT101 maintains a fixed 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi output for EVAP-focused smoke testing. It helps locate visible smoke leaks in EVAP, intake, exhaust, fuel-tank, and vehicle-sealing systems. The compact unit includes 3-year warranty support.
3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi EVAP-Safe Pressure
SDT101 uses a built-in pressure controller to fix output pressure at 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi, helping prevent EVAP lines from being damaged by excessive pressure. The 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi output pressure is intended for EVAP system testing and low-pressure line leak checks.
Visual Leak Location
Smoke makes small line leaks easier to find by showing where vapor escapes from the tested area.
Smoke Starts in About 5 Seconds
Once the unit is connected and ready, smoke starts in about 5 seconds for visual leak location.
External Air Source Control
Connect a shop air supply or external compressor to the air source interface. SDT101 regulates the supplied air to its fixed low-pressure output for EVAP testing.
EVAP and Fuel-Tank Leak Checks
Use it to confirm whether a malfunction may be caused by a low-pressure line leak before further repair or part replacement. Helps detect EVAP leaks, leaking fuel tank areas, and fuel vapor line issues under low-pressure smoke testing conditions.
Intake, Exhaust, Sealing and Line Fittings
Supports intake system tests, exhaust system tests, throttle leaks, intake air duct gasket leaks, and exhaust leak checks. Can help locate crankcase leaks, front and rear oil seal leaks, intercooler air leaks, valves that do not close fully, and line-fitting leaks. Smoke can help visually identify certain air and water leakage paths where the applicable vehicle or component service procedure permits smoke testing.
Compact Portable Design
The small body, handle, and lightweight design make SDT101 easier to transport, store, and use than larger smoke leak detectors.
Grouped Controls and Connections
The handle, smoke switch, power indicator, air source interface, and smoke output are grouped in one compact layout for quick setup and component identification.
Overheat and Low-Temperature Protection
Automatic overheat protection shuts down power when the temperature exceeds 75°C, and the unit supports operation down to -20°C.
12V Vehicle Coverage
Compatible with 12V cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, off-road vehicles, ATVs, light trucks, and speedboats.

Step-by-step smoke leak testing
Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these five steps to prepare SDT101, connect the test line, and run a smoke leak check.
Step 01
Add Testing Oil
Fill 10–15 mL baby oil or liquid paraffin into the detector before first use. Do not overfill.
Step 02
Connect the Test Line
Access the system to be tested, hang the detector if needed, then disconnect the line you want to test and connect it to the smoke leak detector.
Step 03
Connect External Air Source
Connect a shop air supply or external compressor to the air source interface, then open the external airflow before starting the leak test.
Step 04
Connect 12V DC Power
Connect the detector to a 12V DC battery with the power cord clamp, then turn on the power switch.
Step 05
Generate Smoke and Check Leaks
Switch on smoke generation. Once smoke fills the connected test line, inspect for escaping smoke to locate leaks. Use a headlamp if necessary.
External air, fixed EVAP pressure, testing oil, heat, and low-pressure limits
Safety & Compatibility
SDT101 uses an external air source and regulates the test output to a fixed 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi for EVAP-focused checks. The shop compressor only supplies air to the unit; it does not set the pressure applied to the test line.
External Air and 12V Power Are Required
SDT101 has no built-in air pump. Connect a shop air supply or external compressor to the air inlet, then connect the unit to a 12V DC battery before smoke testing.
Test Output Is Fixed at 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi
SDT101 regulates the incoming air to a fixed 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi output for EVAP-focused testing. The compressor’s supply pressure is not the pressure applied directly to the test line.
Use Only for Permitted Low-Pressure Tests
Use SDT101 for EVAP and other permitted low-pressure line checks. Do not use it as a high-pressure leak tester or for direct high-pressure automotive A/C pressure testing.
Testing Oil Is Not Included
Testing oil is not included. Use liquid paraffin or baby oil and add 10–15 mL before first use.
Refill Only When Smoke Becomes Thin
Add fresh oil only when the smoke output becomes thin. Drain the remaining oil first, then add fresh oil without exceeding 15 mL at one time.
Limit Continuous Use to 8 Minutes
Do not run SDT101 continuously for more than 8 minutes. Automatic overheat protection shuts off power above 75°C. Let the unit cool before restarting.
Operating Temperature and Hot Surfaces
SDT101 supports operation down to -20°C. The round metal housing can become hot during use, so avoid touching hot surfaces directly.

Excellent Smoker and easy to use
Well made. Good price. Puts out a large amount of smoke. Better quality than the paint can types and is priced several hundred dollars less than the professional ones. Very easy to use and to test for leaks on your vehicle. I had never used one before but this made it child’s play to find subtle leaks in my intake system. I’m going to also test for interior wind noise by turning the heater fan on high and smoking along the outside door seals, etc. Plus, it’s a great company with excellent customer service. Pretty rare to find all of these qualities in one product these days. Highly recommend. The only drawback is the odor of the smoke. It stinks and it stays in your nostrils but that’s no fault of this product. It’s the nature of the oil used.
