Product Overview
The AUTOOL SDT101 is an EVAP-focused automotive smoke leak detector for quickly locating low-pressure pipe leaks in EVAP, intake, exhaust, fuel tank, sealing, and pipe fitting systems. It requires a DC 12V battery and an external air source, uses 10-15ml liquid paraffin or baby oil as testing oil, and regulates output pressure to 3.2kPa / 0.46psi for EVAP system leak detection.
Before You Order And Use
SDT101 is an external-air-source EVAP smoke machine. Confirm the 12V power requirement, air source requirement, testing oil rule, operating time limit, and hot-surface warning before use.
External Air Source Required
SDT101 does not have a built-in air pump. Connect a shop air supply or external air compressor before smoke testing.
DC12V Battery Required
The detector must be connected to a DC12V battery. It is designed for 12V vehicle testing environments.
Testing Oil Not Included
Testing oil is not included due to logistics restrictions. Use liquid paraffin or baby oil as the testing liquid.
Add 10-15ml Only
When using the smoke leak detector for the first time, fill 10-15ml testing oil. Do not exceed this range.
Refill Only When Smoke Becomes Thin
Fresh oil can be added only when the smoke becomes thin. Do not fill more than 15ml each time.
Drain Old Oil Before Refilling
Before adding fresh testing oil, pour out the remaining oil in the detector and replace detector oil regularly.
8-Minute Use Limit
Do not run the detector continuously for more than 8 minutes. Let the unit rest between tests.
75°C Protection
The intelligent protection system automatically shuts off power if the internal temperature exceeds 75°C. Operate it again after cooling.
Keep Away From Sensitive Parts
During leak detection, keep smoke away from smoke-sensitive parts and avoid using smoke on systems that are not suitable for smoke testing.
Safety Reminder
- The round metal part of the detector becomes hot during operation. Avoid direct contact to prevent burns.
- Do not refill testing oil while the detector is running.
- If overheat protection is triggered, stop use and allow the machine to cool before restarting.
- Use SDT101 for low-pressure EVAP and pipe leak detection only. Do not use it as a high-pressure leak tester.

The EVAP system captures fuel vapors from the fuel system, stores them in a charcoal canister, and routes them back to the engine for burning. Enhanced EVAP systems on many vehicles built after 1996 can self-test for leaks, but a smoke leak detector helps technicians visually confirm pipe, seal, and fitting leaks.
3.2kPa EVAP Pressure
SDT101 uses a built-in pressure controller to fix output pressure at 3.2kPa / 0.46psi, helping prevent EVAP pipes from being damaged by excessive pressure.
External Air Source Control
Connect an external air source and allow SDT101 to regulate the output for low-pressure EVAP testing.
Visual Leak Location
Smoke makes small pipe leaks easier to find by showing where vapor escapes from the tested area.
Key Features
SDT101 combines fast smoke output, EVAP-safe pressure control, compact portability, external-air-source operation, protection functions, and 3-year support for low-pressure automotive leak detection.
Fast Smoke Output
Produces smoke in about 10 seconds under proper setup, helping improve leak detection efficiency in workshop testing.
External Air Source Design
Connect shop air supply, connect 12V vehicle power, open airflow from the external source, then switch on the smoke function to start smoke generation.
Compact And Portable
The small body, handle, and lightweight design make SDT101 easier to transport, store, and use than larger smoke leak detectors.
EVAP-Safe Low Pressure
The 3.2kPa / 0.46psi output pressure is intended for EVAP system testing and low-pressure pipe leak checks.
Overheat And Anti-Freeze Protection
The intelligent protection device shuts down power when temperature exceeds 75°C and supports low-temperature work down to -20°C.
3-Year Warranty Support
For eligible non-human damage cases, AUTOOL provides support and replacement parts within 3 years.
Applications
Use SDT101 for low-pressure smoke testing on compatible 12V vehicles and pipe systems. It is suitable for many automotive, motorcycle, snowmobile, off-road vehicle, ATV, light truck, and speedboat leak checks.
EVAP And Fuel Tank System
Helps detect EVAP leaks, leaking fuel tank areas, and fuel vapor pipe issues under low-pressure smoke testing conditions.
Intake And Exhaust System
Supports intake system tests, exhaust system tests, throttle leaks, intake air duct gasket leaks, and exhaust pipe leakage checks.
Engine Sealing And Pipe Fittings
Can help locate crankcase air leakage, front and rear oil seal leaks, intercooler air leaks, poorly closed valves, and various pipe fitting leaks.
Air And Water Leaking
Smoke can help visually identify certain air and water leakage paths when the test area is suitable for smoke detection.
12V Vehicle Coverage
Suitable for many 12V cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, off-road vehicles, ATVs, light trucks, and speedboats.
Workshop Leak Diagnosis
Use it to confirm whether a malfunction may be caused by a low-pressure pipe leak before further repair or part replacement.

Questions And Answers
These answers cover the external air source, DC12V power, EVAP pressure, testing oil, operating time, overheat protection, supported systems, accessories, model differences, and warranty.
No. SDT101 does not have a built-in air pump. It needs to connect to an external air source or shop air supply before testing.
SDT101 requires a DC12V battery connection. Connect the power cord clamp to a suitable 12V vehicle battery before switching on the detector.
SDT101 uses an external air source with built-in pressure control and fixes output pressure at 3.2kPa / 0.46psi. This low pressure is designed for EVAP system testing and helps avoid excessive pressure on EVAP pipes.
Use liquid paraffin or baby oil as testing oil. Testing oil is not included in the package due to logistics restrictions, so it should be purchased locally.
Add 10-15ml testing oil before first use. Do not exceed this range. Fresh oil should be added only when the smoke becomes thin, and no more than 15ml should be added each time. Before adding fresh oil, pour out the remaining oil in the detector.
SDT101 helps technicians locate small low-pressure pipe leaks by filling the test area with smoke and showing where smoke escapes. The final leak judgment should be made according to the tested system and repair procedure.
SDT101 supports low-pressure smoke checks for EVAP systems, intake systems, exhaust systems, car sealing, various pipe fittings, fuel tank systems, crankcase air leakage, front and rear oil seals, intercooler air leaks, throttle leaks, intake air duct gasket leaks, poorly closed valves, and suitable air or water leak paths.

Excellent Smoker and easy to use
Well made. Good price. Puts out a large amount of smoke. Better quality than the paint can types and is priced several hundred dollars less than the professional ones. Very easy to use and to test for leaks on your vehicle. I had never used one before but this made it child’s play to find subtle leaks in my intake system. I’m going to also test for interior wind noise by turning the heater fan on high and smoking along the outside door seals, etc. Plus, it’s a great company with excellent customer service. Pretty rare to find all of these qualities in one product these days. Highly recommend. The only drawback is the odor of the smoke. It stinks and it stays in your nostrils but that’s no fault of this product. It’s the nature of the oil used.
