Result interpretation

How To Read Test Results

Keep pressure, pulse width, test time, fluid, injector installation, and selected operating mode identical for every comparison. Review each row in sequence so the observed result leads directly to a retest, cleaning, diagnosis, or replacement decision.

How To Read Test Results
What You ObserveWhat It May MeanRecommended Next Step
Drips while closedContamination, valve-seat wear, or a sealing faultClean and re-test; refer or replace if leakage remains
One measuring cylinder fills much lessRestriction, installation leak, channel issue, or injector faultCheck pressure and sealing, swap channels, then clean and repeat
Deflected, split, coarse, or dripping sprayDeposit, nozzle damage, or internal mechanical issueClean and re-test; use specialist service if unchanged
Difference becomes smaller after cleaningA recoverable restriction may have been reducedRecord the result, renew applicable seals, and verify on the vehicle
No measurable improvementThe injector may already be clean or have electrical / mechanical damageStop repeated cleaning and continue diagnosis, specialist testing, or replacement
Bench results look balanced but the vehicle still misfiresThe root cause may be outside the injector systemCheck ignition, compression, intake leakage, fuel pressure, and control signals

Important: Repeat any abnormal result under the same settings before making a final decision. Heating supports ultrasonic cleaning, but injector condition must still be checked with spray-pattern, flow, leak, and simulated operating tests. Use the injector specification, vehicle service procedure, or CT160 manual for final acceptance limits.

Fluid, compatibility, and operating limits

Safety & Compatibility

Correct fluid selection is critical for CT160. Use cleaning fluid only in the ultrasonic tank and test fluid only in the injector testing circuit, and follow the compatibility rules for standard gasoline, motorcycle, and diesel injectors.

Use Proper Cleaning Fluid

Use professional fuel injector cleaning fluid formulated for ultrasonic tanks or professional engine carbon cleaning fluid. If professional fluid is unavailable, 75%+ medical alcohol can be used, although cleaning performance may be weaker.

Use Proper Test Fluid

Use professional fuel injector test fluid. If it is not available locally, 75%+ medical alcohol can be used as an alternative test fluid.

Do Not Test With Cleaning Fluid

Corrosive cleaning fluid may damage internal components and rubber parts, cause leaks, and damage the machine when used in the testing circuit.

Do Not Run The Tank Dry

Add the correct cleaning fluid before ultrasonic cleaning or heating. Do not run the ultrasonic tank dry; doing so may damage the ultrasonic system.

Diesel Injectors: Clean Only

CT160 can ultrasonically clean diesel injectors, but it cannot test diesel injectors. Testing is for compatible gasoline injectors.

Compatibility And Optional Accessories

CT160 is designed for standard 12V gasoline injectors. CT160 does not test GDI injectors. Some motorcycle applications and cleaning without removing the injectors require optional accessories.

Frequently asked questions

Questions And Answers

These answers cover injector compatibility, diesel injector limits, GDI support, fluid selection, model comparison, single injector testing, accessories, and safe operation.

What Injectors Can CT160 Clean And Test?

CT160 is designed for cleaning and testing standard 12V gasoline fuel injectors. It supports up to 4 compatible injectors at the same time and can be used for cars and compatible motorcycles when the proper adapters and accessories are used.

Can CT160 Clean And Test Diesel Injectors?

CT160 can clean diesel injectors with the ultrasonic cleaning function, but it cannot test diesel injectors. Use the testing functions only for compatible gasoline injectors.

Can CT160 Test GDI High-Pressure Injectors?

No. CT160 is not recommended for GDI high-pressure injector testing. If you need GDI, EFI, FSI, or broader high-pressure injector compatibility, choose CT400, CT450, CT500, FN606, or FN608 according to the required injector type and testing capacity.

What Cleaning Fluid Should I Use?

For ultrasonic cleaning, use professional engine carbon cleaning fluid or professional injector ultrasonic cleaning fluid. 75%+ medical alcohol can be used as an alternative if professional cleaning fluid is not available, but the cleaning effect may not be as strong.

What Test Fluid Should I Use?

For injector testing, use professional automotive injector test fluid. The test fluid should be colorless, odorless, and non-corrosive so it can simulate injector working states without damaging the machine. If professional test fluid is not available, 75%+ medical alcohol can be used as an alternative.

Can I Use Cleaning Fluid To Test Injectors?

No. Do not use cleaning fluid to test injectors. Cleaning fluid may corrode internal components and rubber seals, cause leaks, and result in repair costs not treated as a normal machine failure.

How Do I Test A Single Injector With CT160?

When testing a single injector, plug the other 3 unused test positions. CT160 includes 3 plugs for this setup so the unused cylinders can be blocked during testing.

How Do I Set The Test Parameters?

For basic testing, you do not need complex parameter setup. Select the function number and set the test time according to the test you need. The control panel provides function selection, working parameter display and adjustment, pressure adjustment, and Start / Pause / Stop operation.

What Is The Difference Between CT150, CT160, And CT200?

CT150 and CT160 are both designed for cleaning and testing fuel injectors of 4-cylinder gasoline engines. The main difference is that CT160 adds an ultrasonic heating function, while CT150 does not have this feature. Compared with CT150, CT200 adds two additional test positions for up to six injectors at once, while the other basic functions remain similar.

What Is The Difference Between CT400, CT450, And CT500?

CT450 adds a Pulse Injection Test compared with CT400. CT500 further adds Wide Pulse Injection Test and Continuous Injection Test compared with CT450. For cleaning and heating, CT450 features ultrasonic cleaning with heating up to 50°C, while CT400 and CT500 do not have the same heating function in this comparison.

What Is The Difference Between FN608 And FN606?

FN608 supports testing for 8 cylinders, while FN606 supports testing for 6 cylinders. FN608 also uses two independent fuel pumps, each corresponding to a separate left or right fuel rail. If one pump fails, only the corresponding rail is affected, while the other can continue working. FN606 uses a single fuel pump, so a pump failure stops the whole system until the pump is replaced.

What Is The Difference Between FN608 And CT500?

FN608 supports 8 cylinders, while CT500 supports 6 cylinders. FN608 has a heated cleaning tank that can maintain up to 50 °C, supports wider voltage ranges including 12 V, 12–70 V, and 120–180 V, and its cleaning tank can be used independently or together with the main unit. CT500 supports 12V, 70V, and 120V, and its cleaning tank is integrated with the main body. FN608 also uses two independent fuel pumps, while CT500 uses a single fuel pump.

    Worth the money

If you get one you need to purchase injection flow fluid, can be found on eBay. For the ultrasonic cleaning there are a few things that work well, purple power, extreme simple green, and then sharpertek makes some specific injector cleaning solutions.

    Very pleased

This unit works well on many injectors. I have used it on GM and Ford so far. Very repeatable. After giving each injector multiple pulses to verify, I would say each one gave identical results so there was no worries as to the units quality and effectiveness. Bad injector gave the same PSI rating each time as did the good ones. It does not work on GDI injectors but for the price its a must have tool.
