Product Overview
The AUTOOL BT160 automotive circuit tester helps reduce diagnostic time when checking 6-24V DC vehicle electrical systems. After connecting the red and black clips to the vehicle battery, technicians can probe circuits, identify positive, negative, or open states with LED feedback, activate selected components through the power switch, check bad ground contacts, and follow short circuits more efficiently.

BT160 is designed for automotive 6-24V DC circuits. Review the power limitation, spark warning, inspection checks, probe safety, and overload behavior before testing.
6-24V DC Only
Use BT160 only with 6-24V DC automotive electrical systems, including common 12V cars and 24V heavy trucks.
Do Not Use On AC Power
BT160 is not designed for 110V / 220V AC household current or any system above 24V DC.
Spark Warning
Sparks may occur at the probe tip during use. Do not operate in areas with combustible gas, dust, or explosive conditions.
Inspect Before Use
Check the case, probe tip, clips, and leads before use. Do not use the tester if cracks, exposed wires, or visible damage are found.
Sharp Probe Tip
The probe is sharp. Use and store it carefully, and keep the tool away from children.
Do Not Open The Tool
Do not disassemble BT160. Opening the tool voids the warranty, and repairs should be handled by authorized service support.
Protection Reminder
- BT160 is overload protected by disconnecting the circuit and sounding a beeping alarm.
- If the LED changes color with a buzzer during component activation, stop testing and check whether the component is defective or its rated current is higher than the tester can support.
- Read the manual before using jumper lead operation, component activation, or short circuit locating.
Product Comparison
Compare BT160 with other AUTOOL circuit tester models before choosing voltage range, screen display, cable length, measurement functions, and advanced diagnostic modes.
BT160 focuses on fast visual circuit checks, polarity recognition, open circuit and continuity testing, diode status checking, grounding confirmation, short circuit following, and overload protection.
Polarity Test
Probe an unknown contact to identify circuit polarity. The red LED indicates positive voltage, and the green LED indicates negative voltage.
Continuity And Open Circuit Test
Check whether a tested wire, fuse, relay, switch, or circuit path is continuous or open by using the auxiliary ground lead and probe tip.
Diode Test Mode
Quickly test the working status of a diode assembly and determine whether the circuit is open or continuous.
Grounding Test
Check whether the negative grounding of a component is good. Green LED with buzzer feedback indicates good grounding under the correct test setup.
Short Circuit Following
After removing the blown fuse, use the probe to help follow the wiring harness and locate the shorted side or overloaded component.
Current Overload Protection
When overload or excessive current is detected, BT160 automatically opens circuit protection and beeps to reduce unnecessary losses.

How To Use
Connect BT160 to the vehicle battery, select the appropriate test method, observe LED and buzzer feedback, and stop testing if overload protection is triggered.
Connect To Battery
Unroll the leads. Connect the red clip to the positive terminal of the vehicle battery and the black clip to the negative terminal.
Run A Quick Self-Test
Press the switch to confirm LED feedback. Red indicates positive voltage and green indicates negative voltage.
Probe The Circuit
Touch the probe tip to the circuit contact, wire, fuse, relay, diode, or component terminal according to the selected test mode.
Read LED And Buzzer Feedback
Use LED color, buzzer behavior, and circuit response to identify positive, negative, open, continuous, grounded, overloaded, or shorted conditions.
Polarity Testing
Contact the probe tip to the tested point. A positive contact lights the red LED, while a negative contact lights the green LED.
Continuity Testing
Connect the auxiliary ground lead to one side of the tested wire and the probe tip to the other side. Green LED means continuity is present.
Component Activation
Use the power switch to apply positive or negative output under the correct setup. Stop immediately if the LED changes color with buzzer feedback.
Jumper Lead Operation
The black clip and auxiliary ground lead are directly connected through the unit, allowing BT160 to work as a long jumper test lead in suitable checks.
Grounding Testing
Use grounding test mode to check whether the negative grounding of a component is good when high current flow requires reliable grounding.
Short Circuit Locating
Remove the blown fuse, start from the fuse socket, follow the wiring harness, and check the wire side where green LED with buzzer appears.
Use Notes
- Use BT160 only on 6-24V DC systems.
- Do not use BT160 with AC current or over-24V DC circuits.
- When component activation causes the LED to turn green with buzzer sound, stop testing and inspect the component or circuit load.
- For short circuit following, mark the wire color or identification code and inspect connected components individually if needed.

Questions And Answers
These answers cover supported voltage, AC restrictions, LED meaning, voltage display limits, temperature and light functions, component activation, overload protection, package contents, and BT series model selection.
Yes. BT160 is designed for 6-24V DC systems, so it is suitable for common 12V car electrical checks and 24V heavy truck electrical checks when used within the specified range.
No. BT160 is not designed for 110V / 220V AC household current or any over-24V DC system. Use it only on 6-24V DC automotive electrical systems.
BT160 does not have a screen and is not the right choice for reading exact voltage values. It is intended for quick DC circuit presence, polarity, continuity, diode, grounding, and overload checks. Choose BT210, BT250, BT260, or BT280 if you need numerical voltage display or more measurement functions.
Red LED indicates positive voltage supplied or detected. Green LED indicates negative voltage supplied or detected. In continuity testing, green LED feedback indicates continuity is present.
BT160 is positioned as a simple 6-24V DC circuit tester and does not list temperature test or LED light as BT160 functions in the model comparison. Choose BT210 if you need temperature test and LED light support.
The power switch can be used to output voltage during suitable tests. Press the “-” side to output positive voltage and press the “=” side to output negative voltage. Follow the manual and stop if the LED changes color with buzzer feedback during component testing.
If BT160 beeps or the LED changes unexpectedly during a powered test, stop testing immediately. Check whether the tested component is defective, whether the circuit is shorted, or whether the rated current of the component is higher than the tester can support.
Refer to the Packing List image for final package contents. The image shows the BT160 main unit, integrated lead with red and black battery clips, auxiliary ground clamp, user manual, and retail box.
Choose BT160 if you need a compact no-screen 6-24V DC tester for polarity, open circuit, diode, grounding, and overload protection checks. Choose BT210 for a simple digital display, temperature test, and LED light. Choose BT250 or BT260 for TFT screen, AC / DC voltage, resistance, and multi-language support. Choose BT280 for smart test, multimeter, oscilloscope, relay, injector, component activation, online update, and higher-end diagnostic functions.
