The AUTOOL SDT102 smoke leak detector is a compact and lightweight automotive smoke tester for quick low-pressure leak detection in EVAP, intake, exhaust, crankcase, engine airtightness, vacuum, and low-pressure turbo systems. With a built-in air pump and pressure gauge, it helps diagnose leaks without an extra air compressor. It works from a DC 12V vehicle battery and is suitable for cars, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, off-road vehicles, light trucks, and speedboats.

Before You Order And Use

Review the 12V power requirement, testing oil rule, refill method, operating time limit, A/C testing limit, and hot-surface warning before using the SDT102 smoke machine for vacuum leaks.

12V Battery Required

The SDT102 automotive smoke tester must be connected to a DC 12V vehicle battery to operate. Confirm correct polarity before use.

Testing Oil Not Included

Due to logistics restrictions, testing oil is not included. Use liquid paraffin or baby oil purchased locally as the testing fluid.

Add 10-15ml Only

Fill 10-15ml testing oil before use. Do not add more than 15ml at a time, because internal space is needed for smoke generation.

Refill When Smoke Becomes Thin

Only refill when the smoke becomes thin. Always drain the remaining test oil before adding fresh testing oil.

8-Minute Use Limit

Do not operate the smoke leak detector continuously for more than 8 minutes. Allow the unit to rest between uses.

A/C Direct Test Not Supported

SDT102 cannot directly pressure-test automotive A/C systems. It can only assist with segmented A/C pipeline checks under proper conditions.

Safety Reminder

  • The intelligent protection system stops operation when the internal temperature exceeds 75°C. Wait for the unit to cool before restarting.
  • The metal round section of the smoke tester can become hot during operation. Avoid direct contact to prevent burns.
  • Do not refill testing oil while the smoke tester is running.
  • If too much oil is added accidentally, drain some oil out before operation; the extra oil can be reused next time.

Smart Protection

Overheat and freeze protection help protect the machine. The unit supports low-temperature work down to -20°C under proper conditions.

Applications

Applications

Use SDT102 to locate leaks in common automotive low-pressure systems. For high-pressure systems, special test methods or professional tools may be required.

EVAP / Vacuum

Suitable for EVAP and vacuum leak checks when the correct service access tools and adapters are used.

Intake / Exhaust

Helps find leaks in intake and exhaust pipes by filling the test section with smoke for visual inspection.

Crankcase / Oil Seal

Can assist with crankcase, oil seal, intercooler air, and engine airtightness checks under low-pressure conditions.

Fuel / Coolant / Pipes

Supports fuel tank, coolant tank, pipe fittings, and low-pressure turbo system leak checks where smoke testing is appropriate.

How To Use

How To Use

Use liquid paraffin or baby oil, connect the tested pipe, power the unit with a DC 12V battery, and visually locate leaks once smoke fills the pipeline.

Step 1: Add Test Oil

Fill 10-15ml baby oil or liquid paraffin into the detector. Do not overfill. Open the engine cover and hang the detector if needed.

Step 2: Connect The Pipe

Disconnect the pipe that needs testing and connect it to the smoke detector with the proper hose or adapter.

Step 3: Connect 12V Power

Connect the detector to a DC 12V battery, then turn on the power switch so the smoke tester starts working.

Step 4: Locate Leaks

The unit starts producing smoke quickly; the tested pipeline may fill with smoke in about 30 seconds depending on system volume. Check leak points visually and use a headlamp if necessary.

Use Notes

  • Testing oil is not included due to logistics restrictions.
  • Use liquid paraffin or baby oil as the testing oil.
  • Only refill when smoke becomes thin, and drain remaining test oil before adding fresh oil.
  • Do not operate continuously for more than 8 minutes.
  • Wait for the detector to cool down if overheat protection is triggered.
  • Do not use SDT102 for direct automotive A/C pressure testing.
