Core leak-detection capabilities

Key Features

SDT102 combines pressure-gauge monitoring with a built-in air pump for EVAP-focused and other low-pressure smoke tests. It supports intake, exhaust, crankcase, fuel-tank, vacuum, and low-pressure turbo checks. Grouped controls, automatic overheat and low-temperature protection, and 3-year main-unit warranty support complete the core setup.

Pressure Gauge Leak Check

Use the pressure gauge to monitor pressure changes and quickly check whether the test line may be leaking.

EVAP Detection

Supports EVAP leak detection and is compatible with American cars from 1996+ when connected with EVAP service tools that match the vehicle test port.

Built-In Air Pump

No external air compressor is required. The built-in pump saves setup time and makes SDT102 easier for DIY and workshop use.

Intake / Exhaust / Vacuum / Low-Pressure Turbo Checks

For vacuum-system diagnostics, SDT102 can be used as a smoke tester for vacuum leaks. It also supports low-pressure testing of intake, exhaust, crankcase, engine sealing areas, line fittings, and low-pressure turbo systems.

EVAP / Vacuum

Supports EVAP and vacuum leak checks when the service access tools and adapters match the vehicle test port.

Intake / Exhaust

Helps find leaks in intake and exhaust systems by filling the test section with smoke for visual inspection.

Fill 10–15 mL baby oil or liquid paraffin into the detector. Do not overfill.

Power, pressure-gauge and fault-indicator use, testing oil, heat, and low-pressure limits

Safety & Compatibility

SDT102 has a built-in air pump, pressure gauge, and fault indicator for permitted low-pressure smoke tests. Use the gauge to watch pressure changes and the fault indicator to check unit status; neither one changes the pressure limits for the system you are testing.

12V Power and Built-In Air Pump

Connect SDT102 to a 12V DC vehicle battery and confirm correct polarity before use. The built-in air pump provides the test airflow, so you do not need an external compressor.

Use the Pressure Gauge to Watch Test Pressure

SDT102 outputs less than 10 psi with rated flow above 6 L/min. Watch the gauge for pressure changes in the connected test path, and stay within the pressure allowed by the vehicle or component service procedure.

Use the Fault Indicator for Unit Status

The fault indicator shows the unit’s operating status. Use it together with the instructions; it does not measure pressure or replace the pressure limits for the system under test.

Testing Oil Is Not Included

Testing oil is not included. Use liquid paraffin or baby oil and add 10–15 mL before use.

Refill Only When Smoke Becomes Thin

Add fresh oil only when the smoke output becomes thin. Drain the remaining oil first, then add fresh oil without exceeding 15 mL at one time.

Limit Continuous Use to 8 Minutes

Do not run SDT102 continuously for more than 8 minutes. Automatic overheat protection stops operation above 75°C. Let the unit cool before restarting.

Operating Temperature and Hot Surfaces

SDT102 supports operation down to -20°C. The round metal housing can become hot during use, so avoid touching hot surfaces directly.

Do Not Use for Direct A/C Pressure Testing

SDT102 cannot directly pressure-test an automotive A/C system. If a service procedure permits smoke on an isolated A/C line section, follow that procedure and use smoke only as an indirect visual aid.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What Testing Oil Should I Use for SDT102?

Testing oil is not included. If dedicated smoke-testing oil is unavailable, use liquid paraffin or baby oil.

How Much Testing Oil Should I Add?

Add 10–15 mL before use. Do not add more than 15 mL at a time. If too much oil is added accidentally, drain some oil out before operation; the extra oil can be reused next time. Refill only when the smoke becomes thin, and drain remaining testing oil before adding fresh oil.

What Should I Check If SDT102 Does Not Produce Smoke?

First confirm that the unit is connected to a 12V DC battery with correct polarity. Then check whether 10–15 mL liquid paraffin or baby oil has been added, whether the unit has overheated, and whether the smoke has become thin because the oil needs replacement. Do not add oil while the unit is running. If the issue remains, contact support with photos or a short video of the setup.

What Systems Can SDT102 Test?

SDT102 supports low-pressure leak checks for EVAP, intake, exhaust, crankcase, vacuum, engine sealing areas, and low-pressure turbo systems. It can also check fuel tanks, coolant tanks, oil seals, intercooler air paths, and line fittings.

Can SDT102 Detect EVAP Leaks?

Yes. AUTOOL smoke leak detectors can test leaks in the EVAP system. SDT102 supports EVAP leak detection, including American cars from 1996+ when connected with EVAP service tools and adapters that match the vehicle test port.

Can SDT102 Directly Test Automotive A/C System Leaks?

No. Automotive A/C systems operate at about 1.7–3.0 MPa output pressure, while SDT102 has rated output pressure below 10 psi. SDT102 cannot directly pressure-test the automotive A/C system for leaks. Use smoke only to help inspect an A/C line section after isolating and pressurizing it according to the service procedure.

How Can SDT102 Help Check an Isolated A/C Line?

First isolate and pressurize the A/C line segment according to the vehicle or A/C service procedure. Then apply smoke near the test section and observe whether escaping airflow disturbs the smoke. If escaping air moves the smoke, inspect that area for a possible leak. This can help locate a leak; it is not a direct A/C pressure test.

Does SDT102 Need an External Air Compressor?

No. SDT102 has a built-in air pump, so no external air compressor is required. It only needs 12V DC vehicle battery power and the correct amount of testing oil.

Can I Adjust the Pressure on SDT102?

SDT102 uses fixed smoke-mode output below 10 psi. If separate Standard and EVAP pressure modes are required, compare SDT208. Use SDT102 only within its specified low-pressure range.

What Accessories Are Included with SDT102?

Included accessories vary by package option. Check the product listing for the exact items included. Testing oil is not included.

How Do AUTOOL Smoke Leak Detector Models Differ?

SDT101 and SDT103 use external air sources and 3.2 kPa / 0.46 psi EVAP pressure. SDT106 uses a built-in air pump with <12 psi output. SDT203, SDT205, and SDT205S use <15 psi output, while SDT206 uses <18 psi with two built-in air pumps. SDT208 provides Standard 35 psi and EVAP 10 psi modes. Air source, pressure, flow, modes, gauges, and accessories differ by model.

How Long Is the Warranty for SDT102?
