Step-by-step smoke leak testing
Step-by-Step Instructions
Use the SDT60 with liquid paraffin or baby oil as testing oil and a 12V DC battery. Only smoke-test areas allowed by the vehicle or component service procedure. Allow the unit to rest between long tests.
Step 01
Add Testing Oil
Fill 10–15 mL baby oil or liquid paraffin into the detector. Do not overfill.
Step 02
Connect the Test Line
Access the system to be tested and position the detector near the test area. Disconnect the line you want to test, then connect it to the smoke output hose.
Step 03
Power On
Connect the detector to a 12V DC battery, then turn on the power switch to start the unit.
Step 04
Check Leaks
The connected test line fills with smoke within about 30 seconds. Inspect for escaping smoke to locate leaks and use a headlamp if necessary.

Safety & Compatibility
SDT60 is a built-in-pump smoke leak detector with a pressure gauge for permitted low-pressure tests. Use the gauge to watch pressure changes; it does not regulate pressure or replace the service limits for the system you are testing.
12V Power and Built-In Air Pump
Connect SDT60 to a 12V DC battery before use. The built-in air pump provides the test airflow, so you do not need an external air source.
Use the Pressure Gauge to Watch Test Pressure
SDT60 outputs less than 10 psi and less than 5 L/min. Watch the gauge for pressure changes in the connected test path, and stay within the pressure allowed by the vehicle or component service procedure.
Add 10–15 mL of Testing Oil
Use liquid paraffin or baby oil as testing oil. Add 10–15 mL before use and do not exceed this range.
Drain Old Oil Before Refilling
When refilling, drain the remaining oil first and add about 10 mL of fresh testing oil. Replace the testing oil regularly.
Limit Continuous Use to 8 Minutes
Do not run SDT60 continuously for more than 8 minutes. Let the unit rest between tests.
75°C Overheat Protection
If the internal temperature exceeds 75°C, the unit automatically shuts off power. Let it cool before restarting.
Operating Temperature and Hot Surfaces
SDT60 supports operation down to -20°C. The round metal housing can become hot during use, so avoid touching hot surfaces directly.
Check Connections Before Starting Smoke
Before starting smoke, make sure the smoke hose and test line are connected securely and confirm the 12V power connection.
