Product Overview
The AUTOOL BT270 is a compact clamp-on amp meter designed for automotive dark current, leakage current, power consumption current, motor startup current, and generator charging current checks. It supports non-contact AC/DC current measurement, automatic AC/DC recognition, one-button zeroing, data hold, and 99-set data storage for quick electrical fault diagnosis.
Before You Order And Use
Review the measurement range, high-voltage caution, zeroing rule, clamp cleanliness, storage environment, battery warning, and maintenance requirements before using the BT270 clamp meter.
Stay Within Range
Do not exceed the specified measurement range of the instrument. The BT270 is designed for 0mA-60A AC/DC current measurement.
Use Caution Above 60V DC / 30V AC
Operate carefully when the line voltage is greater than 60V DC or 30V AC. Use proper electrical safety procedures.
Zero Before Measurement
Before measuring, press the Zero/Backlight button to perform automatic zero adjustment, especially for DC current testing.
Keep The Jaws Clean
Keep the jaw contact surface clean. Serious contamination can affect measurement accuracy even though the meter has strong anti-interference ability.
Avoid Heat, Humidity, And Sunlight
Do not store the clamp meter for a long time in high temperature, high humidity, condensation, non-ventilated areas, or direct sunlight.
Avoid Impact On The Clamp
Avoid impact on the instrument, especially on the jaw joint and contact surface, because damage may affect testing accuracy.
Replace Low Battery Promptly
Low battery can affect test accuracy. Replace the 9V battery when the battery symbol appears, and remove the battery if the meter will not be used for a long time.
Qualified Maintenance Only
Disassembly, calibration, and maintenance should be performed only by qualified professionals or authorized service personnel.
Stop If Safety Is Uncertain
If continued use may create a safety hazard, stop using the meter, isolate it, and contact support or an authorized service provider.
Key Features
BT270 focuses on precise current and leakage-current checks with automatic AC/DC recognition, non-contact clamp measurement, one-touch zeroing, backlit display, data storage, and automatic power-off.

The meter automatically recognizes AC or DC signals and switches modes without manual mode shifting for common current checks.
0mA-60A Non-Contact Measurement
Measure AC/DC current from 0mA to 60A with 1mA resolution using a clamp-on, non-contact testing method.
Leakage Current Diagnosis
Supports DC leakage current, AC leakage current, ground wire leakage current, and main line current checks.
Backlit LCD Display
The 4-digit LCD screen with backlight helps make current readings easier to see in darker repair environments.
One-Button Zeroing
Press the Zero/Backlight button to reset data to zero before testing. No manual zero-adjustment knob is required.
Data Hold, Memory, And Review
Use the Hold/Mem/Mr button to hold readings and store up to 99 numbered data sets for later review.
Auto Power-Off
After 5 minutes of inactivity, the LCD flashes for 30 seconds before automatic shutdown unless the Power button is pressed to retain the test status.
9V Battery Power
The BT270 runs on a 9V dry battery for portable use around vehicle electrical systems and workshop environments.
Compact Clamp Design
The integrated clamp, trigger, power button, Zero/Light button, Hold/Mem/Mr button, and LCD are arranged in a compact handheld body.
Applications
Use BT270 when you need current-based electrical diagnosis rather than circuit activation or power-probe testing.
Automotive Dark Current
Check vehicle quiescent current after the car is turned off to help identify abnormal battery drain.
Leakage Current
Measure DC leakage current, AC leakage current, and ground wire leakage current during electrical diagnosis.
Main Line Current
Clamp the main wire to check corresponding current without cutting the wire or making direct electrical contact.
Charging And Power Consumption
Measure power consumption current, motor startup current, and generator charging current under proper testing conditions.
How To Use
Power on the meter, zero it correctly, clamp the correct wire, read or store the data, and use fuse-by-fuse checking when diagnosing abnormal quiescent current.
Power On
Install a 9V dry battery if needed, then press the Power button to turn the meter on or off.
Zero Before Testing
The meter starts in DC current mode. Press the Zero/Backlight button to zero first, then clamp the wire. For AC current, the meter can auto-zero; for AC current below 25mA, long press the Power button to switch manually.
Clamp The Correct Wire
Clamp positive and negative DC wires for DC leakage current, clamp live and null AC wires for AC leakage current, clamp the ground wire for ground leakage current, or clamp the main wire for corresponding current.
Read, Hold, Or Store Data
Read the current value on the LCD. Press Hold/Mem/Mr to hold and store data automatically; long press Hold/Mem/Mr to review stored data.
Diagnose Quiescent Current
Turn off all appliances and set the key to the off position. If quiescent current is too high, pull fuses one by one. A clear current drop after one fuse is removed indicates the corresponding circuit should be checked.
Use Notes
- The clamp must be fully closed during testing, and the vehicle should be off for quiescent current checks.
- Typical quiescent current may be around 30-40mA after the vehicle is turned off; some European vehicles may be around 80-90mA depending on vehicle class and installed equipment.
- If tested quiescent current is 100mA or above, electrical leakage may exist and the related circuit should be checked.
- If the LCD shows OL, the measured current is over the maximum test range.
- Low battery can affect measurement accuracy. Replace the battery when the low-battery symbol appears.

Questions And Answers
These answers cover BT270 use cases, AC/DC recognition, measurement range, zeroing, quiescent current diagnosis, power supply, package contents, and warranty support.
BT270 is used for automotive dark current, leakage current, power consumption current, motor startup current, generator charging current, ground wire leakage current, and main line current checks. It is a clamp-on current tester, not a power-probe circuit activation tool.
Yes. BT270 can automatically recognize AC or DC current and switch modes without manual mode shifting for common testing. For AC current below 25mA, long press the Power button to switch manually.
The BT270 measuring range is 0mA-60A AC/DC with 1mA AC/DC resolution. If the LCD shows OL, the measured current is over the maximum test range.
Yes. Press the Zero/Backlight button before measurement to perform automatic zero adjustment. The meter starts in DC current mode after power-on. For AC measurement, the meter can auto-zero, but zeroing before general testing is still a safe operating habit.
Yes. Turn off all vehicle appliances, turn the key off, and make sure the clamp is fully closed during testing. Typical quiescent current may be about 30-40mA, while some European vehicles may be about 80-90mA depending on vehicle class and installed equipment.
If tested quiescent current is 100mA or above, electrical leakage may exist. Open the fuse box and pull fuses one by one. If the current drops clearly after one fuse is removed, check the corresponding circuit or appliance, repair the issue, and test again.
No. BT270 is mainly for clamp-on current measurement and leakage-current diagnosis. If you need polarity testing, continuity testing, jumper lead operation, component activation, relay testing, diode testing, or power-probe functions, compare BT160, BT210, BT250, BT260, and BT280 before ordering.
BT270 uses a 9V dry battery. Replace the battery promptly when the low-battery symbol appears, because low battery can affect measurement accuracy. Remove the battery if the meter will not be used for a long time.
The package image shows the BT270 main unit, storage pouch, user manual, and retail box. BT270 requires a 9V dry battery, but the battery is not clearly shown in the packing image, so confirm final package contents with support if needed.
AUTOOL provides a three-year warranty for the main unit from the date of receipt, and included accessories are covered by a one-year warranty. Warranty handling depends on the actual breakdown condition and the store policy.
