Hang Portable Smoke Testing Close to the Vehicle

Use this compact automotive smoke leak detector for low-pressure smoke checks without a separate shop-air source. Hang it near the test area and trace visible smoke paths. SDT106 starts producing smoke in about five seconds for permitted EVAP, intake, exhaust, fuel-tank, vehicle-sealing, and line-fitting checks, with protection for cold operation and overheating.

Built-In Pump with an Integrated Work Light

Smoke Starts in About 5 Seconds

The detector starts producing smoke quickly after power-on. Allow the test line to fill with smoke, then inspect for escaping smoke to locate leaks.

Low-Pressure Leak Detection

Supports low-pressure checks on EVAP, intake, exhaust, fuel-tank, vehicle-sealing, and common line-fitting areas.

Add Testing Oil

For first use, fill 10–15 mL baby oil or liquid paraffin into the detector. Do not overfill.

Confirm System Pressure and Keep Ignition Sources Away

12V Power and Built-In Air Pump

Connect SDT106 to a 12V DC battery before use. The built-in air pump provides the test airflow, so you do not need an external compressor.

Use Visible Smoke Within the Low-Pressure Limit

SDT106 outputs less than 12 psi and less than 5 L/min. Because it has no pressure gauge, flow meter, or flow adjustment, use visible smoke to locate permitted low-pressure leaks and stay within the service limits for the system you are testing.

Testing Oil Is Not Included

Testing oil is not included. Use liquid paraffin or baby oil and add 10–15 mL before first use.

Limit Continuous Use to 8 Minutes

Do not run SDT106 continuously for more than 8 minutes. Let the unit rest between test cycles.

75°C Overheat Protection

Automatic overheat protection shuts off power if the internal temperature exceeds 75°C. Let the unit cool before using it again.

Operating Temperature and Hot Surfaces

SDT106 supports operation down to -20°C. The round metal housing can become hot during use, so avoid touching hot surfaces directly.

Follow the Service Limits for the System

Do not introduce smoke into any component or system excluded by the vehicle or component service procedure. SDT106 is for permitted low-pressure smoke testing, not high-pressure system testing.

Use Smoke to Locate the Leak

Use visible smoke to locate the leak area, then repair and retest. If no smoke appears, recheck isolation, flow, and the test setup before continuing.

Never Refill While Running

Do not refill testing oil while SDT106 is running.

No Pressure Gauge Provided

Do not estimate test pressure from the unit because SDT106 has no pressure gauge.

Stay Within Low-Pressure Limits

Keep the test within the low-pressure range allowed by the vehicle or component service procedure.

What Testing Oil Should I Use for SDT106?

How Much Testing Oil Should I Add?
